29th Annual Convention and Seminar on Exploration Geophysics

Association of Exploration Geophysicists organized its 29th Annual Convention and Seminar on Exploration Geophysics during 2 -5 November, 2004,Guwahati, Assam, India. The Special theme of this seminar was Petroleum Exploration in India : Emerging Knowledge Base. The seminar was sponsored by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd., Co-sponsored by Oil India Ltd., and Schlumberger and supported bymany government and private organisations engaged in geoscientific activities in India. This seminar is of immense value to professional geoscientists, industrial planners, investors, engineering geologists and research scholars of geosciences. The delegates at the seminar shared a comprehensive review of the geological, geophysical, engineering and educational challenges. A number of renowned geoscientists from India and abroad presented state of art practices in geosciences. This was a unique opportunity to enjoy a broad cross-section of geology, geophysics and related technology in the technical sessions, poster sessions, exhibition and field trips.

A pre-seminar, one-day Workshop on Geosciences and Tectonics of North east India was organised on 2nd November, 2004. Eminent Geoscientists from earth science institutes, organisations and universities participated in the Workshop. Dr. S.K. Acharyya, Former Director General, Geological Survey of India and Emeritus Scientist of Jadavpur University and Dr. J.R.Kayal, Director (Geophysics), Geological Survey of India, Kolkata delivered Key note address. After the presentation of invited papers, a group discussion was held wherein the geoscientists representong Hydrocarbon, Mineral, groundwater and Academic and Research Institutes participated and exchanged their views. Many useful suggestions were made to disseminate geological information of this important region of India.
